In 1996, Oprah started her very own book club. Each year she has chosen a few book titles that she's felt her fans and followers would enjoy reading and could benefit from. Since its inception, the success of the club has grown so much that her literary picks most often become national best-sellers. I've rounded up the 10 best books of all her selections.
I'll definitely read more than 36 books this year, but I'm ending this challenge. Actually, I'm done with all "number challenges". Maybe they work for some people, but to me they just make pressure, turn everything into the chore and take away all the joy and beauty of reading/watching/listening and really enjoying it.
And this goes for many things - everything became just a number and I realized people read a lot of crap just to fulfill the "task" and I don't even know why I am doing this in the first place. I'd rather enjoy one book per month and embrace slow and easy approach to reading/life. That's also a good way to be more mindful, attentive and to pick books/movies more carefully, not just to consume everything that's served for me.
There is hyperproduction everywhere and we are swamped with all kinds of books, movies, series, music and every other kind of content. The problem is - there is so little quality in all that, it's more about quantity. I choose to be more aware of my choices and to embrace JOMO.
So, no more "counting" for me. π Good luck with your challenges, guys. ππ§‘
Challenge achieved! π Some of the books I read. π
Done! Last 3 books of the challenge. "Educated" supposed to be a memoir by a girl who grew up in the survivalist Mormon family, didn't go to school at all, then she homeschooled herself, went to the college and got a PhD. Well, I expected a true story, but the plot is full of gaps, illogicalities and inconsistencies. There are two possibilities : 1. she is a bad writer or 2. the story isn't so true. Either way, I couldn't believe it and I didn't like it.
The other two books are good. Especially "Guns, germs and steel" - huge recommendation!
Finish reading the 6th book of this month. I an really happy!
I have finished 48 books, the second year in a row. It's pretty clear how important it is. Of course, it matters what kind of books you read, so doing the research before reading is valuable. Also, it is useful to read books that you do not relate to, to open your mind even more. Here are a few honorable mentions from my list.

Hi everyone I finished the book Who Will Cry When You Die
My book to read was βWho Will Cry When You Dieβ. My first task ended in this challenge. I will move on to the second task if I get lucky tomorrow. InshaAllah. We will be readers.
Still hard to maintain a regular schedule for reading; however, I am still ahead of reading schedule. The people who have come to help dad and I till I am back up on my feet sleep in till 7. John sleeps on the couch and Becky sleeps in my bed with me. So it's not like I can just get up and get busy. It will be so nice to get back to normal. Well, as normal as we get.
Kind of hard to find quite time when the house is full of people. I am sharing my bed with my helper and she has her phone set to alarm at sundown and sunrise every day. Which isn't bad because that's when I get up for worship. However, she gets up at that time also and she talks non-stop - all day. I've had to resort to wearing my headphones and ignoring her, it doesn't deter her in any way. Oh well, she has come here to help me for as long as I need help, so how can I complain? I am just so thankful for her help.
It's been about 5 months since my last post; however, I am still on track of reading the Bible in 1 yrs. I'm in Nehemiah with 8 more books of the Old Testament and 3 books left in the New Testament. Sure enjoyed Daniel. Can really relate to him. He had so many flaws and shortcomings, but that demonstrates that God will always forgive and accept us if we repent, no matter secrets we have in our past. He will always forgive and love us no matter our current circumstances.
Finished these three books.
1st (D. Robertson) : The title doesn't sound promising (it looks like some lousy self-help book π), but this is very good combination of history, philosophy and psychology. Some very useful tips. Recommendation.
2nd (B. GraciΓ‘n) : This was a huge surprise, considering it was written in 17th century. π³ I guess human needs and true values are timeless. Recommendation.
3rd (J. Green) : Collection of essays about us/humans - how beautiful, complicated, dangerous and vulnerable creatures we are. Nothing new or spectacular, just a fun read. I expected more.

You can join me in the challenge! The goal is to read some pages of a book in a week, because many of us say "it's OK I will read it another time" βΊοΈ
